Improving Passenger Safety Awareness

EYMS Group, like many other operators are conscious of the recently introduced Seat Belt Regulations.  Unfortunately it still relies upon the passengers to fasten up.

To further enforce their duty of care to the passenger the operator wished to remind them to buckle up.

A solution was found with a Voice-Tech unit – supplied by Bright-Tech Developments of Poole, Dorset.  This unit, when triggered is able to make a pre agreed announcement of “Please make sure seat belts are worn at all times when seated, ‘Smoking is not permitted at any time on this coach‘, which was programmed with a female voice.

To ensure a pleasant and even distribution of the announcement the Voice-Tech unit was wired through the PA system in such a way that an announcement was made regardless of the PA status at the time of the announcement.

“What we wanted to do was to get them to comply in a friendly manner” says Peter Shipp, Chairman and CEO of EYMS Group, which has a fleet of 450 vehicles and incorporates East Yorkshire Coaches, Whittle Coaches and Finglands Coach Ways.   “The system works well and the feedback from drivers and passengers has been very positive.  Following the successful trials, we have now equipped our whole coach fleet of 38 coaches.”
